In Digital Toucan, we use Jira for almost everything. We use it for development, finances, marketing, travel approval, and recruitment.
We attach a lot of files to Jira Issues; Text files for design docs, PDFs for invoices, Excel Spreadsheets for budgets, Word files with resumes, or keynotes, and powerpoints for marketing documents.
So everything we do goes in Jira, and a lot of the issues we create have attached documents.
And we could never find these documents when we needed them. It took us too long to find a design document, which was relevant to the problem we were solving. We knew it was in a PDF file containing “Kubernetes”, but could we search for content on attachments in Jira? No idea.
The problem we faced, finding important company documents in Jira motivated us to develop the newest feature for Jira Query Language (JQL) Search Extensions. We built the ability to search for attachments by their content from within Jira, and the problem is solved.
What can members do?
Members can follow each other, write and reply to comments and receive blog notifications. Each member gets their own personal profile page that they can customize.
The new:
“attachmentContent” JQL keyword lets you search through your attached PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and plain text files. Together with other Jira Query Language Extension keywords offered by JQL Search Extensions, such as attachmentExtension, attachedOnDate, or attachedByUser it allows you to quickly find your important documents. How?
1. On the main menu bar, select search and choose advanced search. 2. Type “attachmentContent” and use “~” (like) operator. And type the phrase you’re looking for.
That’s it.
All the issues with your documents you’re looking for are there.
